STOCKHOLM DESIGN WEEK 2020

Thanks to Gubi, Mass Productions, Carl Hansen, Hem, Crest and everyone else who made the 2020 trip an incredible one.

This year I decided to visit Stockholm Design Fair not only to meet with industry friends but also to make new ones in order to expand my network. Scandinavian design has always been a favourite of mine; however this design festival is about much more than celebrating the 70th year. Global brands take part in the main exhibition and many have pop-up spaces throughout the city. This jam-packed few days did not disappoint and not only did I learn more about design as a whole, I also created great memories with new and old industry connections.

See some of the highlights below and hover over the images for more info (I like to keep the page nice and minimal).

An early flight is always painful, however, my anticipation for the upcoming trip was high so I didn’t mind at all!

Arriving in Stockholm, the first item on the agenda was to visit the ‘Stockholm Furniture Fair’, the world’s leading event for Scandinavian design. I wasn’t aware that the fair had been running since 1951! I must admit, this fair is one of my favourites as the venue is large enough to house a large number of brands but without having to walk a marathon to see everything. I spent a large portion of the day in the fair and saw a wide range of new products, old friends and innovative designs.

I loved the Philips stand and their continued innovation with lighting technology. I worked with Philips on a project a few years ago that included the use of a large luminous textile by Kvadrat Softcells and it truly enhanced the space.

“AGO is a Korean lighting company that searches for a balance between beauty and function with light. AGO values simple, honest and refined aesthetics. We collaborate with designers who share these values and make their ideas possible through our dedication to production.”

This is the Nova, “it brings dramatic impression to the space with its delicate structure and vibrant colours. Nova will express the supernova explosion and bring the universe into the space.”

This is the balloon, “it can be a lamp that can bring life to the space with it’s bold, playful yet well-defined silhouette.”

This is the balloon, “it can be a lamp that can bring life to the space with it’s bold, playful yet well-defined silhouette.”

I love that the lamp can be used in such a versatile manor, hung from the ceiling, placed on the side, all creating a different aesthetic. This version was hung from the ceiling as a pendant and creates a completely different feel.

In my excitement on the AGO stand I dropped the camera, but love the combination of colours here.

Home office or co-working spaces, informal meeting and workspaces hot desks and virtual offices all drive a new demand for flexible and creative lighting. We believe we create lighting that defines spaces. The importance of light in each space should never be overlooked, so we encourage our lighting to be the starting point to create a space. Many of AGOs collection offers lighting options that can be specified by architects and designers.”

During a design week I absolutely love the time spent wandering the streets of the city as it gives you time to reflect on what you’ve seen.

An incredible installation called ‘Adjectives’ by Note Design in collaboration with Bukowskis and Kvadrat Textiles.

“A physical canvas created to highlight the continuous interaction between spaces, objects, materiality, light and colour. An adjective describes or modifies a noun or pronoun in a sentence. It often indicates quality, size, shape, duration, feelings, contents, and plays a significant role in the grammar Note uses in their work. This is the reasoning behind this installation, try to transmit these feelings through space and objects.”

Stockholm’s Underground network is one of INNTW’s favourite parts of the city! One hundred stations, each with unique art on its platform, walls or waiting hall. Since 1957 artists have played a key role when new stations have been built.
